Most people that appear on the iconic Saturday Night Live show willingly make a fool of themselves by taking part in some silly stunts.

However, Lana Del Rey was made a mockery of all by herself last month after performing two songs from her new album Born to Die.

Last night, though, the singer bounced back with a great performance on The Late Show With David Letterman that should have silenced her critics.

Dressed in a plain white dress the 25-year-old sang her most popular single Video Games and won over the audience with her strong performance.

Having been criticised previously for appearing too wooden on SNL, Lana looked right at home for her national television performance.

Joined by a string quartet and pianist, she seemed to have captured the haunting sound of Video Games which had appeared lost on her previous SNL performance.

Even sarcastic host Letterman was a fan of the song and invited her to return to the show tomorrow to which she replied: 'My pleasure.'

Music critics appeared to be won over by the performance and Rolling Stone's Matthew Perpetua wrote: 'She comes off as understandably self-conscious in her singing, but delivers a much more controlled and dramatic performance than on SNL.'

The Hollywood Reporter were also in support of her and said she was able to: 'inject the sort of nuances indie music fans were craving when she first emerged as the genre's great hope.'

Lana, real name Elizabeth Grant, was decimated by almost everyone last month for after poor rendition of Video Games and Blue Jeans.

Despite some harsh words the singer still managed to make it to the top of the charts with her debut album.

The 25-year-old American singer took to Twitter to thank her supporters after the LP hit No.1 on iTunes charts across the globe.

She went on to tell her followers: 'Your sweet words have softened the effect of even the harshest reviews. I adore you.'

The pop starlet also defended her SNL appearance and told Rolling Stone magazine that she was happy with her look and her voice.

She told the magazine: 'I actually felt good about it.

'I thought I looked beautiful and sang fine... I know some people didn't like it, but that's just the way I perform, and my fans know that.'

Lana was in good spirits today when she was spotted walking through New York City enjoying a cigarette. The brunette singer was sporting a backwards cap and was carrying two handbags.
